2011 Old Bird Race Results (Updated 6/15/11)
Here are my results in the 2011 Old Bird Race Season. I am including my club results as well as what I will call a "Liberation Result." I will say with all the emphasis that I can that the Liberation Result IS NOT AN OFFICIAL RESULT and is placed up here just for fun and informational purposes - please see my explanation below for the Liberation Release!!
NOTE: I have had several pigeon friends across the country comment when they see our schedule "Wow! You guys fly one long tough schedule!" All I can reply with is that we do fly a long tough schedule and the reason is because we fly on the GSLC trailer and they are 40-50 miles short of us so our birds have to fly those extra miles each week. This year on 4/30/11 we are having our birds dropped short at Idaho Falls instead of being taken to Divide, MT, which is 390 miles to us. This is the first time we have done that...we will see how it works out for our club.

*For the "Liberation Release" our club releases with 6 or 7 other clubs between the Salt Lake, Davis and Utah County areas, but for a variety of practical and political reasons we do not publish a combined result. One of the key reasons we don't published a combined result is that there are too many topographical/weather issues between the north enders and the south enders. Some days it is a "fair" competition and the results are meaningful, but many days it isn't fair. I guess the best example I can use is having a mile race between two guys and one guy has to run uphill and one guy gets to run downhill. On the unfair days that is about what it is like for the guys on the south end versus the guys on the north end. As you can see, we often release with over a thousand birds, which I really like as I think a big release requires the birds to think more as opposed to being released with several hundred and they are all flying to the same general area. Also, since I only receive a list of their Top 20% of birds, I may not even make the sheet if it is one of those races where we get destroyed by the short-end GSLC flyers. For example, on the 5/21/11 Spencer Toss I can only go down 100 places as we only had a couple birds from our club make the Top 100 and the rest of us were below where their Top 20% was so I can't do a result showing all of us.
**UCA 488 was the pigeon that broke away and won this race against 1233 birds by 5:12. Last year in 2010 Old Birds he won 1st Racing Pigeon Digest National Ace Pigeon - Category 5. UCA 488 is one of those very special birds that we all dream about and he makes me look good. What a pleasure it is to have him in my loft. He won 3 club races last year and is one his way to more wins again this year. Last year, he was also 1st on the whole liberation on a 430 mile race for me. After every time they loft fly, every training toss and until he gets home from a race -- I am so nervous as I want to put him in my breeding loft in 2011 and I would be so sad to lose him. Why don't I stock him now? I have a philosophy that for most - not all - of my racers to have a place in my breeding loft they need two years of being a super racing pigeon for me. As a yearling UCA 488 was average, but I knew he had "super" in him and last year he proved that - this year he is just adding to it! - UPDATE - I pulled UCA 488 out of the racing loft on 5/14/11 as I just couldn't take it anymore and I stocked him for fear of losing him.
Here are the pedigrees for those birds that are deserving of having them placed on this page:
